Overview
We are seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join a well-established and ambitious building services consultancy in Birmingham. This role offers the opportunity to take technical ownership, lead electrical projects, and mentor junior staff while delivering high-quality, innovative, and sustainable MEP solutions.
The Senior Electrical Design Engineer will work across commercial, healthcare, education, and residential projects, providing technical leadership and ensuring designs are fully coordinated, compliant, and deliverable.
Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and coordination of electrical systems including power, lighting, fire alarms, data/communications, and security
• Prepare detailed calculations, specifications, reports, and technical drawings
• Manage project deliverables through all stages, from feasibility to handover
• Collaborate with mechanical engineers and multidisciplinary teams for fully integrated MEP designs
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior and intermediate engineers
• Liaise with clients, contractors, and internal project teams as the primary technical contact
• Ensure all designs comply with BS 7671, CIBSE standards, and sustainability objectives
• Support business development and contribute to internal process improvements

Candidate Profile

• Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering or Building Services (BEng, MEng, or equivalent)
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) or actively working toward chartership (CIBSE, IET, or equivalent)
• 6+ years’ consultancy experience in electrical building services design
• Strong technical expertise in electrical system design and coordination
• Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, and electrical design software (Amtech, Dialux, or similar)
• Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills
• Proven ability to manage complex projects and mentor junior engineers
