Job Description

EYFS Teaching Assistant

Can you help young children feel settled, supported, and ready to learn from the minute they walk into class? Are you looking for early years school experience that gives you a proper feel for classroom life before teacher training?

*** EYFS Teaching Assistant
*** Immediate start until July 2026
*** £85 - £105 per day
*** Large primary school, Yardley
*** General TA duties in EYFS

The Role:
Work alongside the EYFS team to support children with day-to-day classroom routines, play-based learning, early communication, and basic number and literacy activities. You will help pupils stay engaged, prepare simple resources, and provide practical classroom support throughout the school day. The EYFS statutory framework sets the standards early years providers must meet to help children learn and develop well, stay healthy and safe, and build the knowledge and skills they need to start school.

The Candidate:
You are patient, approachable, and able to communicate clearly with young children. You enjoy being active in the classroom, supporting early development, and helping children build confidence through routine, encouragement, and consistent support. This role suits a graduate who wants practical early years’ experience before moving into teacher training. Primary teachers are responsible for the educational, social and emotional development of children aged 3 to 11, and early years’ experience gives you a strong foundation for that route.

Requirements
  • Degree – A 2:2 or above in any subject.
  • Communication – Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
  • Enhanced DBS – Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate.
  • Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in supporting pupil progress and wellbeing.
  • Career Goals – A desire to train as a teacher and build a long-term career in education.

The School:
This large primary school in Yardley offers the chance to build valuable early years’ experience in a busy setting where routines, teamwork, and classroom support matter. You will work closely with the EYFS staff in a role that gives you direct exposure to the day-to-day reality of supporting younger children in school. Teaching assistants support teachers in the classroom and help children with reading, writing and learning activities, which makes this a strong stepping stone into education.
