Court Adviser
Location: Wales
Pay rate: £41.58 per hour
We are looking for experienced and passionate Social Workers to join a dedicated CAFCASS team. This is a Court Adviser role and successful candidates must be experienced within court work. CAFCASS independently advises the family courts about what is safe for children and within their best interests. CAFCASS is the largest employer of qualified social workers in Wales and is deeply committed to making a positive difference to each child they support. This role offers Hybrid working.
Working in accordance with social care legislation and local government requirements, informed by the values and principles of social care; you will be supporting in the delivery of person centred, safe and effective social care services. Using your professional knowledge and experience you’ll make assessments and decisions about the most appropriate interventions. Applying your significant Social Work experience and excellent communication skills you’ll establish and maintain relationships with service users and other agencies to ensure services meet identified needs.
You’ll be committed to ensure positive and sustainable results of your interventions. Using best practice, you’ll strive to provide the best outcomes for children. Most importantly however, you’ll have a passion for supporting children and their families to ensure that they thrive and flourish. Our priority is to protect the most vulnerable and to be as efficient as possible.
In this role the perfect candidate will:
- Provide advanced social work-level services to children, families and courts by assessing and analysing court applications for any child protection and serious welfare issues affecting a child or young person.
- Influence those with parental responsibility to be more child-focused when needed and to advise the courts about how a child’s life can be improved, supporting judicial case management in the process.
- Keep the child at the centre of your work through high quality direct work with children and their families. You will also need to be a skilled negotiator, working persuasively with family members and professionals on behalf of children.
- Keep the child’s timescale in the context of the child’s journey through childhood and, where applicable, the care system, at the centre of everything you do and you must be prepared to advocate in the best interests of the child, ensuring their voice is not lost in the court arena.
- Be a resilient, reflective and accountable practitioner, possessing good IT and organisational skills, so that you can maintain a high throughput of outstanding casework.
- Able to travel into Wales on occasion
- A high standard of assessment and case analysis
- Ability to produce written work to a high standard • Communicates effectively and demonstrates empathy with children & families within the family justice system
- Effective communication and joint working with a range of professionals and agencies.

The Perfect Candidate
- Degree in Social Work with 3 years post qualifying experience
- Full Social Work England registration
- Excellent written and verbal skills
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment
- Eligibility to work in the UK
